Matrix, as systematized by myself, uses a series of interactive patterns to teach multi-dimensional combative skills that can be effectively applied to any fighting situation. Picture a series of wheels or a hub with spokes coming out of them. Each hub is a level of combat and each spoke is a particular aspect of combat. Each successive level subsumes or includes each previous level with increasing complexity and effectiveness. Moves that are included, but are not limited to strikes, kicks, sweeps, boxing, chokes, strangulations, biting, hair pulling, wrestling, joint locking, throws, body pins, control methods and highly advanced finger sets which are similar to the Chinese art of Dim Mak (the Death Touch).
Because the Matrix System contains many lethal moves that are taught at the highest levels within the system, students are only accepted upon recommendation. Current students are already well accomplished black belts and instructors in other styles of martial arts. Even with 30-40 years of experience in martial arts, these masters and experts have found my Matrix to be more innovative and effective than anything else they have ever seen.
The Matrix System is a formula that contains a natural beginning, middle and end. This interactive formula can then be applied to all forms of motion and
movement. While the Matrix System will appear very complex, ultimately you will find that it is natural and spontaneous. The Matrix System involves a paradigm shift from traditional martial arts philosophy. Thus while every art has its good points, the Matrix System has concepts and principles that can enhance them all.
The art actually takes advantage of the creativity of each individual practitioner by allowing each practitioner, at the black belt level, to create their own series of movements from the foundation movements learned through succession. Then with further development from myself, these movements are further enhanced on multi-dementional levels. These movements are combined to work with actions, reactions and interactions in all methods of application. These movements are not separate, but are interconnected for multiple applications. Ultimately, I feel that you can only weigh something through comparison.
Practice Based on Reality
Instruction is always accompanied by explanations on the proper application of the movement to ensure the most comprehensive understanding for each individual. Unlike most styles that operate under strict/controlled conditions, the Matrix System strives for flexibility for the realities of street combat. The Matrix System explains the shy, when, where, and how of each movement with an interpretation based on reality. This includes information about power, force, distance, angles, and application. The structure, form, and approach evolves and changes at each level.
Even though the Matrix System is an extremely fast art in its application with the hand speed being nearly blinding, the art is actually practiced at a slow to moderate pace to insure that it is performed correctly. Proper movement skills are incorporated at each level to ensure that combat-effectiveness has been gained by the practitioner by the time they move to the next level of training. The way you train is the way you fight!
The Matrix System is an art that focuses primarily on the interactions between its practitioners. It does not use techniques, but concentrates on patterns of effective combative interactions that develop spontaneous fighting skills. Its principles include the proper use of force, distance, reactions, weight distribution, angles, rhythm, explosiveness, and the physical and psychological state of the practitioner. The mind and body working together as one is most important.
The internal aspects of the Matrix System uses what might be called power tools sophisticated body mechanics, which have been, effectively combat tested. The Matrix System is not cultural or traditional, it involves the study of movements to control, understand and improve oneself in the martial arts and in life.
Working with a fighters emotional state is also important. Fear is, of course, a natural element in combat, but a Matrix System student learns to use fear through special tensing moves that help to regain confidence, knowing that even if one was to get hit, you wouldnt get hurt. In this way, fear is used to return to a regular or combat state of mind.
An Art without Boundaries or Limitations
The Matrix System is an art without boundaries or limitations. It takes aspects of all arts and expands them to another level. The Matrix System has a multi-dimensional approach to learning utilizing sequential steps as building blocks that progress to increasing efficient and effective levels of combat. Every level in the Matrix System is actually tested for its true combative effectiveness to make sure it actually works.
These building blocks can be effectively used for all martial arts as they are proven formulas that will make them function better and reach their maximum potential as well. The Matrix System is based on evolving at each level of its use. Even though movements in the Matrix System can be seen in other martial arts, the interpretation is uniquely different in the Matrix System. It uses the physics of movement to exploit force and pressure in combat situations. Much like music or art, the Matrix System becomes a way of life with different ranges and levels of sophistication.
I have identified several stages that a student experiences when studying the Matrix System. These stages are as follows:
1. Participation: the student begins training in the Matrix System.
2. Acknowledgement: the student begins to recognize that the Matrix System is different and unique.
3. Awareness: the student becomes aware of what they are doing and begins to comprehend the inter-activeness of the art.
4. Conscious/Subconscious: the student becomes spontaneous as their awareness is linked to the unconscious.
5. Being: one becomes the art. The practitioner becomes the Matrix System, is finally able to move and respond in combat at a masters level.
Rank Based on Knowledge
The Matrix System, as a goal, seeks to take each student to his or her fullest potential as a martial artist and as a human being. As a result, my approach has extensive requirements at each level: from white belt though 10th degree black belt. Unlike most martial arts that have curriculum that only covers 3rd to 5th degree black belt and then awards promotions to higher ranks for time served at each rank, the Matrix System has a full comprehensive curriculum throughout its entire ten black belt ranks.
Brief History and Background on Myself:
I have an 8th degree Black Belt in the art of combative Limalama and I am currently technical advisor to Mexicos Limalama TILOA organization. I have been studying martial arts for over 40 years (33 years in the combative style of Limalama, 7 years in traditional forms of martial arts, Judo, Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing and Kung-Fu).
