My Sister's Keeper is one of the best and most stunning books I have read. Written by Jodi Picoult, this is a story about a family who has a daughter and a son. At the age of four, the daughter, Kate, is diagnosed with leukemia. She is in such bad shape that her parents decide to have another daughter to be the organ harvest.
The story is told from the perspective of Kate, her mother, her father and her lawyer. Lawyer, yes. At the age of 16, the younger daughter decides to sue her family for medical rights to her own body. The event that triggers her decision to sue is when Kate needs a new kidney.
The story follows the court trial, and has a surprise ending that that shocks the reader so much you have to read it again to make sure you read it right. I give it five stars- a fantastic summer read. |
