Ask me something
by Farida Mihoub
Ask me if the day was fine,
and if I got anything done.
Don't hesitate to speak up.
I can see you are busy
but you sill can take some time
to show some kind of interest.
You have not even noticed
that there are new dinner sets
on the living room table,
that the flowers have been watered,
and that I changed the sheets in our bed.
You went past the pile of ironed shirts
without a look, nearly bumping into them.
You did not say a word about the smell
that came from the kitchen,
I tried so hard to find the king size shrimps
this morning in the market.
Even the lady who sold them to me
said they were for someone special.
Ask me something, make it nice.
And if you decide to say nothing,
at least pretend that you are here,
that I am not only a guest in your life,
and that one day, we shall meet.
