below the green waves
sinks the orange sun
warm breezes nudge her to the water's edge
waves push over the golden sand
wrapping chains around her legs as it retreats
drawing her in
excitement fills her
thoughts of peace
a life with no pain
freedom surrounds her
walking, stumbling, the water draws her in further
waves crashing over her fragile form
drown out the cries from the shore
urging for her to return
imprisoned in the chains
tears roll down her flush cheeks
waves brutally whip against her body
Streams of memories follow
each crushing wave
icy waters rush over her shoulders
splashing her tear-stained face
she is blinded
she is gone
under the waves,
one with the water
what has she escaped from?
freedom has a high price
for death is not an escape
it is forever
