Last Night
by Alan Cohen

The house was dark
and cold,
when I came home last night.
The piercing silence
sent shivers
down my spine!
I turned on the lights
to see
my home
was almost
empty.

Uncontrollably,
my hands began to shake,
my lips to shudder.
Erupting inside me
my heart felt like thunder!

Smashed on the floor
were pictures of her and I;
I could not hold back
the tears,
I began to cry.
I spotted a note
addressed to me;
it said she had found another
who was so much better than me!
She had been with him for months,
and were finally happy.
I remembered,
the words she said that morning.
They now felt
like a knife slicing thru me.
I'll love you! Have a great day"

I ran out the door;
into the freezing rain;
I thought I was going
insane.
My life turned to chaos
so suddenly;
I found myself
sitting beneath a tree;
thinking,
this might be better
for she had set me,
free.
