Misty memories
masquerade through my mind,
back to the time
when you were mine.
We would walk along the shore
all night,
staring at the stars.
Holding each other until the sun
rose into the sky,
we talked of our future,
the children we would have.
I remember your beauty,
full lips, green eyes.
Your silky long brown hair
floating behind you in the breeze.
To me you were Venus;
no other caught my eye.
Everyday,
I remember that morning;
tears flow from my eyes.
What we argued about
I do not recall,
just that all through the night
we fought;
which did not happen often
at all.
With the sun barely rising
you ran out,
jumped into your car.
As you drove away
I ran behind you,
calling out your name.
With the sun low in the sky,
you headed east
on that winding road.
With tears in your eyes,
blinded by the sun,
you probably did not see that car.
It hit you head-on!
The driver was drunk,
but I will always blame myself
for what happened that morning.
Now you lay in a comma
awaiting to die.
My love is still strong;
everyday I bring you a rose;
hoping that you will awake
with me by your side.
